It’s good to be back in “Writing Mode!”
It has been so long since I have written that I almost am at a loss for words. My last post reflected the direction the next six months would take. Where did I end up? Well, I rented a cute little house in Charlotte, North Carolina. My son and his dog, Delta, moved in with me. I absolutely love having them there. I am also closer to my daughter in Atlanta, not to mention the extended family I have down there, as well. Since I have spent so much of my life in Charlotte and even call it “home” I also have many friends that are close by.
Work however is now a commute from Charlotte to Washington DC. I may eventually make a final move up that way. But that is in the distant future. For now, the commute is not fun and often requires me to drive. I generally drive up to DC work three or more trips in a row then drive home, with an occasional fight up to work a random trip or two. My Virginia friend, Barb, is kind enough to let me use her spare room as a crash-pad, which helps on those long spans of back-to-back trips.
Flying in Washington DC has been vastly different than the flights and trips I worked in Denver. While I got the occasional Hawaii flight, my routes usually consisted of the Midwest and west. And no international flying to speak of. I certainly was not senior enough to hold those trips as my regular schedule; nor was I quick enough on the draw to grab them when they became available. In Washington DC, however, I am able to hold some of the more junior international trips, at least from March to November. The winter months are still yet to be determined.
My international flying has made this a great summer. I have been fortunate to see a lot of Europe this year. I have been to London, Brussels, Madrid, Lisbon, Frankfurt, Dublin, Edinburgh, and Rome. But my favorite this summer has been the fact that I have held Paris as my “regular” route consistently. I was able to watch Paris prepare for the Olympics throughout the spring and summer months. And was even be in the middle of it all, one week into the events. There are a few destinations in DC that I have not been able to secure yet. The likes of Amman, Jordan; Capetown, So. Africa; Tokyo; and Athens are at the top of my work destination wish list.
I wanted to thank everyone for your patience with the time I took for my relocation and getting myself established in my new work environment. Moving forward, I would like to post a new BLOG at the first of every month. My books are in final preparations for publication and I’m hoping them have the first one, Nefertiti’s Bracelet, ready to launch in the next several months, with the Engineer’s Timepiece to follow by next spring.
