Back in 2015, I quit making Resolutions on New Year’s Eve. I decided I needed to focus more on what can truly be obtained rather than making promises to myself that I had no way of keeping. So, I began making “Reflections” instead. And it was that year that my life began to change for the better. I look back on the year and decide if the direction I have traveled in the past 12 months is the trajectory I would like to continue with. Is this direction the best possible path to achieving the goal I have set for myself physically, mentally, and emotionally. If so, I continue with the status quo, plugging forward on the course I have set for myself. If not, I look to take a different path, keeping my already set goals for myself firmly in place. I simply need to adjust my steering wheel slightly and veer in a more direct or clearer direction toward the horizon.
So, upon Reflection, what is and isn’t currently on track as I transition from 2023 to 2024?
Well, my status as a WRITER has been steady and moving as expected. My edits and author coaching have been well paced, and I am still hoping to launch the first volume of the Carruth Chronicles series in the Spring of 2024.
Unfortunately, however, my FLYING career hasn’t moved along as well as I had hoped and has ultimately stalled. This has forced me to make a few pretty substantial adjustments in my work and home life. While there is an upside to working and living in a small flying base such as being a face rather than a number or knowing the people you work with, this can also be a downside if your work history is poor. Fortunately, my work history record is stellar, and this isn’t a problem. But as with any work environment, clicks and brown-nosing is a part of things. When you have a small base, it is difficult for anyone who is not in that small niche of workers to move up and expand their career. There is simply no room.
So now what? What happens after “reflection?” Well, my writing career is on track and will be left to run its current course. But what happens when a direction has been blocked or is no longer a positive play to run. You simply drop back and punt. Due to the stall in my flying career, it has become necessary to make a change. As such, I put in a transfer request to return to Washington D.C. I will eventually move back east, although the variables for that move are still being ironed out. I will have to commute until an official relocation can be made. I am actually looking forward to getting back east to be with my family, friends, and favorite work colleagues. I will, however, miss those dear and precious friends and colleagues here in Denver.
One thing is certain, 2024 is will an eventful year with a lot of steady progress and positive changes.
