The WAITING Game

Sigh… (eye roll), Looking at the phone waiting for it to ring or looking at one’s email, constantly waiting… waiting… waiting!

When we have something important that we are hoping for a positive outcome, the waiting is the absolute worst! There is a job opportunity I have been waiting to hear back from since I applied in September. The (my) company hasn’t taken into consideration the stress this is waiting game has placed on its applicants. There were more than a hundred applicants and only ten spots available for this promotion within our company.  The wait for the interview itself was long, now waiting for the final decision. It has literally been nine weeks since my interview. And the wait has been excruciating. As such, many of the applicants have given up and moved on. The company continues to give various reasons for the delay, but I, along with several of my friends, are starting to wane. The unrelented wait is forcing us to wonder if the job will even be worth it. Which is sad, really, because every person I know who has applied for the job, would be outstanding in the position. Real assets to the position and the company.  To make matters worse, there are rumors circulating that they’d already made their decision and making those of us who did not get the job wait for our rejections. As such the company has created a poor situation.  This is upsetting because, I have worked for large corporations before as well as other major airlines, and my company is normally a great company to work for. I have enjoyed my job immensely.  But unfortunately, this excessive waiting has put my life and the lives of others on hold. Many of us are pending other aspects of our lives on the outcome of this promotion. Not to mention, the preoccupation of waiting has stifled my creative process LOL! I am having a difficult time focusing on my writing.

So, in the meantime, I’ll take a deep breath, let it out slowly, and wait, and wait, and wait. Patience.  After all, all good things come to those who wait… right?
