Time is a curious concept. On one hand, it affords us the ability to be prompt with our obligations, a place where boundaries are met, and we grow as human beings to our maximum potential.
But on the other hand, it can be a damning stressor that consumes our every waking moment. When time is lacking our mind goes into override and we look for ways to extend it, to create more.
In many ways we look at time as a directional sign that dictates where we focus our energies. Recently, I came back to flying after being out on Medical Leave throughout the entire summer. I had to re-learn my sense of time management, to learn to re-allocate where my time off from work was used. With only one day between long trips, the need to do laundry, meal prep, unpack, repack, and find the time to mentally recover were squeezed into a very short period of time. So where does socializing fit into that narrow sliver of time? The short answer is that …it doesn’t.
Where does writing fit into this small window of opportunity? The answer to this question isn’t as easy to answer, but my priorities put writing toward the front of the list and everything else gets shuffled around. Laundry and meal prepping get unceremoniously wedged between posting on my BLOG and working through the edits my publisher has sent for review and acceptance.
Time is both our friend and our enemy whether we are trying to force 3 days’ worth of activities into a mere 24 hours or enjoying those moments where we actually get to spend time making memories with our friends and family. Whether time is our friend or foe at the moment, embracing its presence as our secular guide to how we move through our daily lives, can lead us to capture every moment of time as a potential memory to cherish.
